What it is
An ultrasound scan of the heart: the chambers, the muscle, the valves and the way blood moves through them. No radiation, no needles.
What to expect
You lie on your left side; a little gel and a probe on the chest for about thirty minutes. Dr Verrin performs the scan herself and talks you through what is on the screen.
Results
Read in the room. The measurements and the plan are in your written report before you leave, copied to your GP that evening.
